Cook N Home 8 Piece Stainless Steel Cookware Set Review

If you like Cook N Home’s reputation for low cost, good quality stainless steel cookware sets and you are a fan of silicone handles, then this set is for you.

I am in awe of the large number of very positive reviews this company gets for its cookware.  You won’t likely find good quality sets made of this material  at such a low price Cook N Home 8 Piece siliconeelsewhere.   At least, not for the number of pieces included. And I personally love the fact the the pots stack neatly within each other. This is a huge plus if you are concerned with storage space.

It’s really hard to believe that you can buy a 10 to 12 piece stainless steel set at this price without it being of very poor quality. But thousands of loyal Cook N Home owners say that you can.  And with this particular set you get 8 pieces plus silicone handles. The items also stack nicely within each other, a real bonus if you lack space.  So if you are looking for stainless steel cookware from a reputable company at budget prices, you want to check out this one.

Bottom and Sides

These pots and pans heat food evenly avoiding the problem non-stick cookware sometime has of creating hot spots in food.  It’s a pain to have part of you food cooked perfectly and other parts that need more cooking time. This set owes it great cooking performance not to stainless steel alone, but to aluminum sandwiched between two layers of the metal. Without this layering which is referred to as tri-ply, multi ply and clad, you would not have such even cooking of your food because this metal alone is a poor conductor of heat, but aluminum distributes heat very well.

The tri-ply construction is only on the bottom of the cookware and does not extend up the sides.  However, this is enough to ensure that food throughout the pots and pan heat uniformly.

Handles

Are you concerned about how hot the handles can get on cook sets? It’s a concern many potential owners have and it’s a legitimate concern as there is evidence that the long handles on pots and pans can get so hot that a pot holder is needed in order to lift them.  Good news here. The handles on this set are made of silicone. Silicone handles are known to remain cool to the touch.  What’s more, they are also comfortable to grasp and lift.

The Silicon wrap avoid the hollow problems of the Cook N Home 12 Piece Set. With this brand’s stainless steel handles, there are some rough edges which have a very slight possibility of scratching your fingers.

Lids

The lids in the set are glass, a popular option for cooks who like to see their food as it cooks.  If you are anxious about glass lids breaking, it is highly unlikely that they would do so. They are made of tempered glass which means they have gone through a process to toughen the glass.  It’s the same type of glass that is used to make  bulletproof glass and passenger auto windows.  These lids also have a steam vent that lets some of the pressure building inside to escape and prevent the liquid from boiling over.

Weight (Thickness)

For such a low cost, it is of adequate thickness and weight.  It’s more like a medium weight as opposed to medium heavy.  This is a good fit for anyone who has muscle problems or weakness in the hands and arms because it is not heavy to lift. However, it is not thin material. If that were the case, food would burn easily and not cook evenly.

Brushed or Mirror (Polished)

This is beautiful, shiny mirror polished cookware that you would be proud to have in your kitchen.  It’s constructed with 18/10 grade stainless steel which does not corrode or form rust. With 18/10 grade, chromium and nickel are added. Chromium inhibits rust and nickel enhances this feature so the cookware is likely to last a lifetime free of corrosion. Nickel also contributes to the shiny, reflective feature.

Compatibility

These pots and pans can be used on electric stoves, gas stoves, glass cooktops and induction cooktops.  In some cases, 18/10 stainless steel is not induction compatible, but this is not the case with this set.  If the alloy nickel is added to stainless steel, it will usually inhibit magnetic properties.  However if  a ferrous base is added then the items are magnetized. Induction cookware must have these properties in order to work on induction stoves

These pots and pans are not recommended for use inside ovens because the handles are made of silicone.

What’s Included in Set

Cook N Home is located in the US but the items are made in China.  The size and items included would work for a small family, but would not be ideal overall for a medium or large size family.  The sauce pan is very small and holds 4 cups of liquid. The casserole is more versatile but isn’t very large. The frying pan is more like a saute pan the difference being that frying pans have flared sides rather than straight. Saute pans also hold more. So this is a good size for a small family. The stockpot, however, is quite large and could be used for a variety of tasks like cooking vegetables. The set includes:

  • 1 quart sauce pan with lid
  • 2.7 quart casserole with lid
  • 5 quart stockpot with lid
  • 10 inch frying pan with lid

Pros

  • Cooks evenly
  • Medium weight
  • Handles remain cool
  • Glass lids for see-through cooking
  • Silicone handles for comfort
  • 18/10 magnetized  stainless steel
  • Individual lids for each piece
  • Stackable within each other

Cons

  • Not recommended for use inside ovens
  • Variety and sizes not the best

Consumer Ratings

This isn’t the  most popular of the Cook N home or Cooks Standard sets but reviews from those who do own it give it top ratings. It’s very attractive and produced with very good quality.  It’s medium weight would be attractive to those who don’t like heavy cookware because of lifting issues.  The medium weight and thickness still provides very good heating distribution meaning your foods will cook uniformly and evenly.

Price

This set basically has only four pieces because the lids count, too, and that’s what makes it an 8-piece set.  This is not a lot, but for the price and quality you still get a good buy. It’s good for someone who wants to try out cookware with this material before committing to a larger set.  It’s also a good buy for supplementing existing sets or a single person who cooks very small amounts of food.

It makes great gifts for college students. If you aren’t primarily looking for a great set with silicone handles, I would recommend the Cook N Home 12 Piece Set instead. You get a wider variety of pieces at a fabulous price.  For a list of comparable sets and prices, check out this chart.
